Greater Wellington — Wellington Harbour Entrance Webcams and Radio

The busy entrance to Te Whanganui-a-tara Wellington harbour is monitored from Beacon Hill Signal Station. This is staffed by a roster of six people, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Contact Wellington Harbour Radio when transiting the harbour entrance

All commercial vessels must report their intentions and passenger numbers.

Recreational boaties must make contact after dark or when visibility is restricted.

The harbour's working VHF frequency is Channel 14.

We constantly monitor these VHF sets:

04 - provides coverage around Cape Palliser towards Castlepoint.

16
62 - repeater on Mount Kaukau gives coverage across Cook Strait and up the west coast past Kapiti.

Once contact is made, information regarding the current shipping movements, prevailing weather conditions and any relevant navigation warnings are passed on.
