Real outdoors, real wonder! Step into a world few people ever get to see.

Join one of our experienced park rangers for a guided walk into a 1,000-year-old forest in Wainuiomata Regional Park, an area that is normally closed to the public. Wander beneath towering rātā and rimu trees and discover a remarkable sanctuary that provides habitat for North Island brown kiwi and other wildlife.

Along the way, you'll hear stories about the park's natural history, conservation work, and the people helping to protect this special place for future generations. It's a rare opportunity to experience an ancient forest and to create memories that will last long after summer ends.

Registrations are extremely limited. Each walk is capped at just 20 participants, with a maximum of two registrations per person. If you've attended this event before, please give someone else the opportunity to experience this unique part of the park.

  • Group size: Limited to 20 participants

  • Registration: Max two per person (places are drawn from the registrations)

  • Fitness level: Moderate; not suitable for children under 14

  • What to bring: Lunch, snacks, water bottle, and suitable footwear and clothing.

To book: Due to the overwhelming popularity of these limited capacity events, we have now decided that the fairest way to allocate bookings is via a ballot system. A ballot will open for registrations via the link below at 10am on Tuesday 23 February and close at 10am on Thursday 25 February. Names will then be drawn at random all applicants notified of the outcome by 4pm on Friday 26 February.

NOTE: The below link to enter the ballot will go live from 10 on Tuesday 23 February:
