Paraparaumu rail station new priority parking

People who carpool to catch the train at Paraparaumu can now park right next to the station.

Eight new priority carparks are available for carpooling commuters catching the train from 28 January.

The carpool carparks are located next to the station for easier access to the trains. These well-positioned carparks provide an incentive for people to share their rides to the station by helping reduce the demand for parking.

The new cark parks are available for vehicles with two or more people who are sharing the ride to the station. They're available on a first come first served basis from midnight till 9am.

"The priority car parks are a way we can actively reduce congestion and capacity issues on the roads and at Park n Rides", says Greater Wellington Regional Council Sustainable Transport Manager Melanie Thornton.

Many people carpool with friends, family or colleagues. Or they can find someone to carpool with by registering on www.letscarpool.govt.nz.

"CCTV cameras are in place at the Paraparaumu Station and we hope people will comply with the need to have two or more people in each car to be able to park in the new priority car parks," says Melanie.

An additional four new carparks for disabled people are also now available directly opposite the station.
