See East Harbour Regional Park from a new perspective.
This guided day in the Parangarahu Lakes area of East Harbour Regional Park offers two walks to choose from.
- A steeper walk to look inside the Pencarrow Lighthouse, guided by Heritage New Zealand.
- A flatter lakeside stroll by Lake Kohangapiripiri, guided by Taranaki Whānui (mana whenua).
You’ll have the chance to learn why the area is significant to iwi, discover the unique history of Pencarrow Lighthouse, and find out about important conservation work in the area from Zealandia. The location offers stunning views of Te Whanganui a Tara/Wellington Harbour and Raukawa Moana/Cook Strait.
Please note:
- Make sure you bring your lunch, snacks and water, suitable walking shoes, sun protection, layers and a light raincoat.
- This is an exposed site and there is no shelter. Be prepared with clothing for sun, wind, or rain.
- Dogs are not permitted in this area of East Harbour Regional Park from November-July. Please leave dogs at home.
Two buses will transport you to-and-from the Parangarahu Lakes entrance - 14 km return. Bookings for transport on the bus are essential, as private vehicles aren’t allowed in this part of the park.
You can also come by bike and join us at Lake Kohangapiripiri or Pencarrow Lighthouse. Bring your own bike or hire one for the day from Wildfinder near the park entrance (electric bikes available). Visit Wildfinder to book
