Functions and responsibilities

Greater Wellington Regional Council has many functions and responsibilities. These mainly centre on environment management, but also includes public transport and strategic and economic development of the Wellington Region.

Greater Wellington Regional Council creates plans (annual and long term plans) that sets out the activities and services we intend to provide to meet the Wellington Region’s needs.

Greater Wellington Regional Council also has owns subsidiary companies which make up the WRC Holdings group of companies. These are council controlled organisations.
