This document presents the methodology for carrying out an emissions
inventory of the Wellington Region. Ambient air quality within the region is
affected by a number of factors, including the emission of pollutants to
atmosphere from a variety of sources. A knowledge of the pollutants
emitted and their sources is vital if causes of poor or degraded air quality
are to be identified and assessed.

The purpose of an air inventory is to assist the Wellington Regional
Council in better understanding the species, quantity and location of
contaminants discharged to atmosphere.
