This report describes the construction and calibration of the
ground water flow model for understanding the cumulative
effects of using water from the shallow aquifers on the Kapiti
Coast. It explores various abstraction scenarios to assess
the sustainability of the aquifer in order to provide a guide to
the effective management of this resource. The following
suggestions are offered: creating 150m buffer zones
around recognised wetlands and springs; controlling any
abstractions, drainage and surface water diversions; and the
monitoring of large groundwater takes in the Waikanae
Groundwater Zone.
