In 2021, Greater Wellington and CentrePort engaged South Maritime Services to review vessel navigation in Wellington Harbour, assess risks, and provide recommendations. A risk review meeting in September 2024 further refined this work. The resulting report and recommendations, shared in December 2024, were under consultation. As changes are introduced in stages, with prior notice and opportunities for feedback, the Direction will be updated to reflect these adjustments. The process includes ongoing review and modification until all changes are implemented, followed by a period of evaluation and potential initiation of a review of the Navigation and Safety Bylaws 2021.
