System map

Updated 17 July 2012 3:55pm

The map below shows the location of our water collection areas, treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines and the reservoirs that we supply directly.

An important feature of the supply system is the interconnection between the two main pipelines - Kaitoke to Karori and Wainuiomata to Wellington - at Nguaranga. This interconnection provides security of water supply to the cities.

On a typical day, Upper Hutt, Porirua and Wellington's northern suburbs are supplied from Kaitoke, Lower Hutt is supplied from Waterloo and Wellington's central business district and southern and eastern suburbs are supplied by a combination of Waterloo and Wainuiomata. If necessary, water can be pumped from one main pipeline to the other, so any city can receive water from more than one source.
