Staying Safe on Rivers

Staying Safe on Rivers

Updated 23 December 2014 5:15pm

There are many amazing opportunities for recreation on the rivers of the Greater Wellington Region. There are a range of different river conditions ranging from placid swimming holes to raging white-water. We encourage everyone to get out and experience what is on offer, and to do it safely. Make sure you have the right gear with you for the activity you are doing and the hazards that you will be exposed to, that you have an emergency plan, and that you or someone with you has appropriate experience within the river environment.

If you require specific river hazard advice please contact one of our area engineers (Monday to Friday), and they will be able to update you on planned works, discuss particular hazards, and advise on general river conditions as well as put you in contact with local clubs;

  • Wairarapa - Masterton Office - 06 378 2484
