Soil quality

Greater Wellington monitors soil quality at over 100 sites across the region to identify the effects of different land uses on soil and the environment.
This information helps landowners make good management decisions so we protect the life-supporting capacity of soil for future generations. It also helps determine the effectiveness of our regional policies and plans.
Not all sites are sampled every year, for example in 2016/17 we monitored 23 sites (twelve on the Kāpiti Coast and eleven in the Ruamāhanga) the majority of which are market garden and cropping sites.
See our 2016/17 report card for further information about soil quality on the Kāpiti Coast | See our 2016/17 report card for further information about soil quality in the Ruamāhanga |
