Reducing energy consumption

Updated 18 July 2012 2:20pm

Greater Wellington wants a resilient community that, as far as possible, is reducing its carbon emissions to mitigate the effects of global warming, but is also adapting well to any changes caused by climate change.

Energy is one of the elements that Greater Wellington has identified as contributing to the quality for life outcomes we wish to achieve. If we are to have sufficient energy for future generations it is important that everyone starts to use energy responsibly.

We are making our contribution by ensuring that we minimise direct and indirect energy use in all of our activities.

Examples of where we are contributing to reducing energy use include:

  • Operating the water supply system optimally
  • Funding and promoting public transport
  • Cycling and walking programmes
  • Investigating local solutions for greater use of renewable energy
