Public transport

Updated 10 December 2019 11:23am

We manage the Metlink public transport network with more than 38 million journeys a year on buses, trains, and ferries. This connects people throughout the greater Wellington region with a public transport network that stretches from Wellington north to Otaki and east to Masterton.

The network includes over 100 bus routes and 200 school bus services, 4 passenger rail lines and the 4 harbour ferry stops. We also look after the local railway stations, bus and ferry shelters, signage, and Park & Ride facilities.

Plan your journey with Metlink buses, trains and ferries.

Public transport that works now and in the future

We’re building a world standard, low emission public transport network to make greater Wellington even greater. So we’re making extensive improvements to the Metlink network to deliver faster, affordable, more frequent and reliable services.
