Park Board

Whitireia Park is administered by the Whitireia Park Board as a recreation reserve, allowing for walking, swimming and quiet enjoyment of the coast rather than major development.

New Park Board 

On 22 April 2014 the Ngati Toa Rangatira Claims Settlement Act 2014 (the Act) received royal assent. The Act establishes the Whitireia Park Board (the Board) as the administering body of the Whitireia Recreation Reserve in the form of a joint board between Greater Wellington Regional Council and Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira Inc. The Board is made up of three members appointed by Greater Wellington Regional Council and three members appointed by the Toa Rangatira Trust.

The Board is responsible for the control and management of the Whitireia Recreation Reserve, the Onehunga Bay Historic Reserve and the Te Onepoto Recreation Reserve in accordance with the provisions of the Reserves Act 1977.
