Legal protection

GWRC supports the legal protection of our special ecosystems and habitats by way of covenants.

A covenant is a legally binding agreement that means that the landowner and subsequent landowners have to protect and manage the area concerned. This ensures that the values of the area cannot be destroyed.

GWRC works in partnership with QEII National Trust to offer assistance in some circumstances with costs associated with a covenant. The Trust can give landowners advice on the covenanting procedure.

For more information on covenants you can contact the QEII National Trust. If you would like to know more about GWRC's role in supporting the covenanting process you can contact the Biodiversity department by emailing
