Joint Committees

Under the Local Government Act 2002 a local authority may establish a joint committee. A Joint Committee is deemed to be both a committee of the local authority and a committee of the other local authorities or public bodies. A Joint Committee will usually be established to oversee region-wide activities such as emergency management. The terms of reference set out the joint committees’ responsibilities.

 The Joint Committees of the Wellington Region are:

• Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group 
  This joint committee is operated by Greater Wellington and consists of nine members, being the eight territorial authorities and Greater Wellington Regional Council. Agendas are published on our website.

• Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and Catchment Joint Committee 
  Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and Catchment Joint Committee is operated by Porirua City Council. Agendas are available from the Porirua City Council.

• Wellington Regional Leadership Committee
  This joint committee is administered by Greater Wellington. Agendas are published on our website.

• Wellington Water Committee
  The Wellington Water Committee is operated by Hutt City Council. The membership consists of a representative of the shareholding councils and two iwi representatives. Agendas are available from the Hutt City Council.
