Pristine natural locations

Our parks have had some interesting visitors over the years. Kaitoke Regional Park became a temporary home to elves, orcs and hobbits with the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Battle Hill Farm Forest Park hosted a dragon with the filming of Pete’s Dragon.

Our parks have a lot to offer when it comes to filming. With the vastly differing landscapes combined with locations that feel remote but are still so close to Wellington City, it’s not suprising our landscapes have featured in so many filming projects.

Whether you’re filming the next big blockbuster, or a one-off commercial, our parks might prove to be just what you need for a location.

To use any of our parks for filming purposes, you need to apply through our concession process.

A concession will give your organisation the legal right to carry out filming in one of our parks and is particularly important if you need exclusive use of a site for a period of time.

What next?

Start by filling out a filming application/concession

There are fees attached with commercial filming in our parks. If your filming activity fulfils our criteria for being low budget, for student educational purposes, then you can apply for a fee waiver.

If you have any questions about the process, contact the Concessions Administrator at or 021 536 916
