The Agrecovery Rural Recycling programme provides New Zealand’s primary sector with responsible and sustainable systems for the recovery of ‘on farm’ plastics and the disposal of unwanted chemicals.

Established in 2005 Agrecovery is a not-for-profit charitable trust put together by primary sector stakeholders.  It currently provides three nationwide programmes, with much of the cost of recycling and recovery covered by 60+ participating brand owners:

  • Containers for the recovery of agrichemical, animal health and dairy hygiene plastic containers 0L-60L
  • Drums for the recovery of agrichemical, animal health and dairy hygiene drums and IBCs 61L-1000L
  • Chemicals for the disposal of unwanted and expired chemicals in agriculture

Agrecovery is governed by the Agrecovery Foundation whose trustees represent Agcarm, DairyNZ, Environment Waikato (for Local Government), Federated Farmers, Horticulture New Zealand, and a representative of manufacturers and distributors.
