Rivendell

Updated 1 March 2018 7:38am

Don your elf ears or hobbit feet, and visit Rivendell, the site where Arwen and Aragorn kissed, in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.

While it’s not quite the mystical setting that Rivendell was in the films, the native bush and sheltered area are just as captivating. And if you need a little helping hand to see the setting in its full glory, we installed a replica elvish archway to jog your imagination.

To reach Rivendell, just follow the directions from the park entrance. It’s only a few steps away from the Pakuratahi Forks carpark, so it’s an ideal spot for all the family (even if you have no idea who Aragorn and Arwen are).

After you’ve admired the archway, and recreated that famous kiss, enjoy a beautiful bush walk, a jump on the swing bridge and a swim in the river.

For the die-hard Lord of the Rings fans there are also tours run through the film set and park where you get to learn about those extra tidbits of behind the scenes knowledge.
